In today's workshop we went through another step every film maker has to do before they can film anything and that's a Location Recce. A very dull and boring step but it is important. The reason for a location recce is to assess the filming locations for any problems that could ruin the shot and audio. For example Noise Pollution, Reflections, Health and Safety, Facility access, Environmental issues (sun, wind, shadows, etc), the location itself and any filming issues. So once you have decided a location to film you would head out there and write down and take photos of any issues that could ruin the shot. Examples of this could be a busy road with loads of cars going by, a busy public place that could lead to people walking in the shot, the sun might create unwanted shadows and many more issues. We then went on to make our Location Recce, we were given the synopsis 'Zombies are ravaging a post-apocalyptic Fareham. A lone survivor breaks into Fareham College to salvage food and weapons, but he is unaware of the zombies watching him, ready to attack'. So I walked around the college looking for locations that you could possibly see in a Zombie film. The location has to look abandoned, run-down or dirty so it fits the theme of a Zombie film. I found 2 locations. A crate full of wood that looked abandoned, it also created an eerie darkness right at the back where no sun could get to. The second location I found was a compost which was very dirty and looked like it had been sat there for ages. I then took some photos of the 2 locations and put them into a location recce table. Here are the tables we created for the locations.
